Services

  • Involves a combination of talk therapy & body-focused techniques to help address your individual needs, challenges, & goals. Bodywork may include breathing exercises, movement, touch, postures, mindfulness, or trauma release exercises. Each session will be tailored to where you are at, what your needs are & the pace & depth you are comfortable working at.

    The composition of talk therapy and body therapy will vary and be guided by your therapist based on the individual’s needs.

  • The focus of these sessions is on exploring and improving the relationship between two partners. It will involve counselling or talk therapy and often body work. Body work could include breathing exercises, movement, touch, role play or expression exercises. These sessions are tailored to the individual couple and their needs, struggles and goals. They often address relationship patterns that are no longer serving the couple or improving communication and connection between the couple.

    Overall, body psychotherapy couples sessions aim to help partners develop a deeper understanding of themselves & each other, improve their communication & connection, and work together to create a more satisfying & fulfilling relationship.

  • Workshops are a great way to experience Body Psychotherapy, whether for the first time or to explore different aspects of your self. Workshops are small group sessions designed to explore a theme, how it presents in your life, how it influences you, does it still serve you, and if not how to start to make a change.

    A group setting is a supportive way of connecting with ourselves and with others and developing new skills.

About Penelope

Hi there, I'm Penelope – a practising student body psychotherapist & a qualified physiotherapist with over 15 years of experience in helping clients recover from injuries to the body and brain, including chronic pain & stroke. 

Through my work as a physiotherapist, I have seen the importance of working with the whole person – the brain, the body & the emotions (or the mind, body & soul). We cannot optimise our health & well-being if we don’t address all 3 as they are intricately connected.

At Body Wisdom Psychotherapy, we specialise in a range of body-centred techniques that combine talk therapy with somatic practices. This includes body movement, breathwork, mindfulness, therapeutic touch, expression, & role play to help individuals explore the connection between their thoughts, emotions, & physical sensations. Our goal is to help you connect with your body, release stuck emotions, and heal trauma.

We work collaboratively with individuals to explore the ways in which their experiences are held in their bodies & to use this awareness to cultivate greater self-understanding, resilience, & well-being. We believe in tailoring our approach to meet your unique needs, so you can get the most out of your therapy experience. For this reason, we offer individual sessions, couples counselling and workshops in a group setting.
