About

Hi there, I'm Penelope – a practising student body psychotherapist & a qualified physiotherapist with over 15 years of experience in helping clients recover from injuries to the body & brain, including chronic pain & stroke.

Through my work as a physiotherapist, I have seen the importance of working with the whole person – the brain, the body and the emotions (or the mind, body and soul). We cannot optimise our health and well-being if we don’t address all 3 as they are intricately connected.

There is strong evidence to show trauma and past experiences are held as tension in the body. The body holds the past and trauma, it also holds the key to unlocking greater health, well-being and bringing more joy and pleasure to your life. Listening to the wisdom of the body allows us to release these traumas (big or small), tensions & pains as well as the associated mental & emotional pain/blockages. Body psychotherapy techniques enable our body to feel & move better & improve our self-awareness.

Our bodies are the vessels through which we engage in movement, life, and relationships. If we have pain, be it physical or emotional, we have a limited ability to be in our body and really enjoy how our body feels. This affects how we interact with our loved ones and how we engage in our lives.

In my practice, I use a variety of body-oriented techniques to assist clients to be present, calm their nervous systems, release tension from their bodies & express feelings. These techniques may include breathing, mindfulness, meditation, therapeutic touch, movement therapy or role-play exercises. The aim is to release tension and to give the body and the brain a new experience. The new experience taps into your nervous system and rewires your brain (this is called neural plasticity), this is how we make long-term change that affects our lives on a deeper level.

If you're ready to experience therapy that works with the wisdom of your body, I'd love to work with you. Contact me today to schedule a session or book a free 15min phone consultation to discuss further. I look forward to connecting with you!
